Porn for Pals
The following text is the artistic statement from the Porn for Pals exhibition, shown from September 3rd, 2024 to September 23rd, 2024 at Gallery 115 in Ottawa (Adàwe).
Born from candid discussions between friends about PornHub, masturbation, and sexual shame, Porn for Pals brings fantasies to the forefront. Fantasies that, more specifically, come from queer and trans non-male perspectives. In doing so, Porn for Pals becomes an ever-growing project focussed on persons whose identities are fetishized by our public online porn industry.
Personalized erotic passages breathe life into ekphrastic paintings. Both texts and responses, in their visual immediacy, act as pornographic previews, leaving conclusions up to interpretations.
Porn for Pals invites viewers to cast sexual shame aside, gaze upon the results of consensual exchanges, and question the sources, implications, and ethics of the sexual media available for consumption.
